CoRe’s Apex Super Formula Season 1 Review

CoRe Takes 2nd Place in Team Championship!

The Super Formula 23 has filled the chasm of active high-performance single-seaters on iRacing since it’s introduction at the start of September in 2023. Astounding straight-line speed and cornering ability but simultaneous simplicity has propelled it to the top of many drivers’ favourite vehicles to drive. CoRe SimRacing drivers Carl Winkler and Maik Paluch signed up to this Apex Racing League Super Formula season to compete in an 8 rounds competition of 200km length races and to finally quench their thirst running in a high-class formula racing series.

Sharing the entry list with some top notch drivers of Alkentech NHR and Mivano Racing, both CoRe drivers attempted to get used to this new challenge. As the season opener was held at Spa and the base setups were configured, Carl & Maik were able to finish their first race in the Top-10 to grab their first solid points. With a rough understanding on how the racecraft’s around in this type of competition, the following venues of Motegi, Aragon and Suzuka saw improvements in the CoRe’s attendance – several Top 5 results as well as a podium by Carl positioned the team in close competition with Alkentech in the team championship.

The field came up to proper speed and the competition for CoRe got challenging – the following rounds at Silverstone and Zandvoort brought bad luck and damage issues to Maik ending his races close to a DNF. While Carl was able to hold on tight to the lead packs in these races, prosperity in Road America for Maik by finshing on the podium did turn around his confidence for a remainder of the season. With Nürburgring, Redbull Ring, Barcelona and Fuji being the ending third of the venues, both CoRe drivers were able to keep their Top-5 to Top-8 streak finishing the races safely more or less. With all points calculated in the end, P5 for Maik and P7 for Carl was the result in the drivers standings. Despite a competitive Alkentech NHR team did take the team championship, however, the CoRe team was happy to finish their first ever Super Formula season 2nd in the team standings.
